Two new Fairy Ducks have arrived from Manjimup Senior High School. My friend Kylie is a teacher there and has done a great job in promoting the project. She also donated 10% of the profits from her garage sale to go towards duck freight. Thankyou.

We have a lovely little shop in Bridgetown called Vintage Vibes owned by Simone. She has offered to put some Fairy Duck Kits in her shop along with her treasures. So I have made up a little flyer to go with it.

This Fairy Duck has been made by a Patchwork Quilt crafter. Can't you tell? Gabe has done a beautiful job and the stitching on the petals is very sweet. Thankyou, she's lovely.

Donations

Along the way, we have been receiving donations which is lovely. Today Kylie donated 10% of the profits from our garage sale to the Project. Her $10 will provide about 8 passports for 8 little Fairy Ducks. Kates cutlery provided 5 passports and other people have just given their change or five dollars to support the project. Isn't that nice.

Freight Costs

Good morning. I've just received an email from Violet with pictures of her two Fairy Ducks which are on their way as we..... Blog. They are very sweet and can't wait to put their photo's up. I was at the post office yesterday getting freight information. It costs about $1.50 to send a Fairy Duck to South Africa so we may need to have a few more Biscuit stalls and find a sponsor. That would be nice. Spread the word. If any local or interstate or overseas philanthropists would like to sponsor the Dairy Ducks delivery we would love to hear from them. I'm on my way to post 20 Fairy Duck kits to Baltimore this morning. Have a nice day.

Down South

I had a call from the Pemberton Craft Group yesterday. Their ladies saw the article and have offered to make some Fairy Ducks. Fantastic news. This is a great project for craft groups as the members can get together and by the time they've had some morning tea and a chat they've made their Fairy Duck. It only takes about an hour if your hand sewing to complete one. On Monday I'm off to the Blackwood Club to meet their members and give a chat. Last week their were 36 people at their day centre. 36 Fairy Ducks x the one they each pass on.... there's a potential for 74 little ducks. On Tuesday I'm hoping to go to Geegelup Retirement Villiage to recruit some crafty sewers. Wish me luck!Thankyou Kate for your cutlery donation which raised $5 for the project. That's freight for at least 4 ducks to SA.

Fairy Ducks headed for America

I awoke this morning to the wonderful news that the Fairy Duck Project is going abroad. My friend Amanda posted a link on her website and overnight we've had a great response from people wanting to be part of the project and help distribute the kits overseas. I am so happy about this. Yippee.
The newspaper article has also helped promote the project with locals calling to become involved. I have posted the pattern online and the directions for those that would rather use their own fabric.

Twice the fun

Some of my friends with children have decide to make two Fairy Ducks. One will be sent to South Africa and the other will remain with their child or children. This way they can talk about the Fairy Ducks and where they are going and their children will have something to relate it all to. I think this is such a lovely idea. I love how people are taking this project and making it their own. Everyone is coming up with such great ideas.

How to make a Fairy Duck

1.Cut out body parts. You should have a head, body, wings, legs and feet.
2. Sew each head to each body
3. Place these pieces right side together ready to sew.
4. Tuck the wings inside the body and you are now ready to sew these pieces together.
5. Sew them together.
6. Turn inside out and you should have the head, body and wings assembled. Well done.
7. Put this aside while you work on the legs.
8. Sew the foot to each leg. You should now have four legs.
9. Place two legs right side together and sew.
10. Turn them inside out and stuff.
11. Repeat for the next leg.
12.To have seamless leg attachments, you need to insert the legs up through the middle of the body and sew. Leave a small section so that you can turn your Fairy Duck inside out.
13.If this is too tricky, just attach the legs to the bottom of the Fairy Duck.
14.Stuff your Fair Duck and sew up remaining seam.
15.There you have it, a beautiful hand made Fairy Duck.
16. Now, for the decorating......

Flapper Fairy Duck

I have posted the pattern on line for those that would like make their own Fairy Duck using fabric they have at home. This pattern has been drawn on an A4 piece of paper. The Fairy Ducks measure about 20 cm in height. Happy sewing.

Kits Ready

We have been busy today making up some new kits to send away. Ella and Daisy have been helping me with the packing and pasting. The news paper piece has prompted a few calls of interest which has been great! Yesterday we went for a drive to deliver some kits and received a donation for the project as well. Sue Garde from the local paper dropped in for a coffee the other day and to do a story on the project. She had some good suggestions which included visiting a local high school with the project. She also mentioned the project to a local Gallery who suggested hosting a Fairy Duck making session. Isn't that nice.I need to get cracking with some more promotion if we're going to make 1,000 ducks! Maybe the local radio is my next port of call.

Me, Ella, Isabelle and Christine.

Ella was lovely and had fun helping with our 'shop'. She took some of the money and said 'Thankyou' so nicely. She kept saying'Bikki, Bikki' and trying to open the packets.

Christine has been great in helping to promote the project with her friends and eating my wares! Thankyou to Nardene who jogged into town with a vase of flowers from her garden on the way to work.

Thankyou also to Kate for baking her Biscotti which sold in a flash and to Amanda for bringing down her gorgeous duck. Thankyou also to those people who just dropped in a donation.

Fundraiser

This Easter Weekend I held a market stall with some bread I baked and boxes, and boxes, of handbaked biscuits. I had visions of taking everything home with me and eating shortbread intil next Easter but..... we sold out by mid morning. It was wonderful. Everyone came along and were very supportive. Thankyou to the lady from Perth who bought 7 Fairy Duck Kits to take back to perth to her Craft Group and to everyone else who bought a kit and some biscuits. We made $160 which will now go back into the project for freight to Africa and Photocopying for the Kits.

When my friend Kylie got out of her car with a whole bag of material it really made me smile. She has done a great job in encouraging people at the school where she teaches, to create Fairy Ducks. Can't wait to hear some more news from her and watch those little Fairy Ducks fly in.

Muppet Duck

My sister Bianca created this very special Fairy Duck that looks a bit like a Muppet. She did a great job considering she is a self confessed 'non sewer' and sewed her creation by hand. Bianca went to Africa a few years ago and worked on a buiding project and helped build a house in Tanzania and plans a return visit later this year.

One of my sisters has decided to make some Fairy Ducks too.When she went to purchase her material, the girl at the counter asked what the fabric was for. When my sister told her it was to make some Fairy Duck dolls to send to Africa, she gave her the material for FREE. What a lovely story.

The Original Fairy Duck

This is the very first Fairy Duck ever made. Her name is Petal and she was made for my little girl. Now she is going to have lots of friends just like herself to send to Africa.

I am very excited because Fairy Duck number two has just arrived. She has beautifully decorated wings and was made by a friend that makes beautiful stuffed toys of her own.

Hello and welcome to the Fairy Duck Project.
This project is designed to generate hand made Fairy Duck Dolls to send to children in Africa. I thought that it would be nice for children that don't have very much in the way of toys, to have something beautiful to play with. So the Fairy Duck was created.
A Fairy Duck can quack like a duck and fly like a fairy. She can waddle like a duck, swim like a duck and even fish for worms. However, the best thing about a Fairy Duck, is that she can help make wishes come true.

If you would like to make a Fairy Duck, plase send a self stamped return envelope to:
